Fry bread made by Zilma! It was yummy! |
On our way to new teacher inservice starting on 8/6 until 8/15!
Unalakleet Wolf Pack in the gym. |
On the beach for 4 wheeler training and bear spray training. Only in bush Alaska do you get to learn how to use bear spray (pepper spray for bears!) and drive a 4 wheeler during training!
Sean setting off the bear spray! |
The first night Chelsea (the kindergarten teacher from Gambell) and I went 4 wheeling. This is from the top of the hill.

When I was in Unalakleet for CPI training in April I gave Kristina money to buy me this hat. We were supposed to meet up for lunch during the summer, but we never did. Luckily she remembered to bring it back to Alaska!

Mel (HS Language arts teacher in Gambell), Kyle, and me. |
Unalakleet river. The river is so clear, you can see all the fish. Many people went fishing during inservice and caught lots of fish. I did not go fishing. |
I got *a little* dirty. Not much! LOL! |
One night we made Kuspuks. They are a traditional shirt/jacket that Native Alaskans make and wear. We did not use a pattern, except for sizing, using a sweatshirt.
Sleeve and cuff! |
Rickrack on cuff! |
Bias tape on the hood. Bias tape sucks. |
Steffan and me! Steffan is someone I met during training in April, and he stole my phone to take pictures! |
Body and pocket! |
Almost done! Just need hemming! |
Hemmed with BIAS TAPE (terrible stuff!) and the side panel with the different pattern! |
One night was chicken fried steak for dinner. So several of us went to Peace On Earth, the local pizza place, for pizza. It was yummy!
Hannah (kindergarten teacher from Savoonga, as well as an intern with me) kept saying that she couldn't do this, quit several times, but she finished! |
Rob, who is going to be the K,1,2 teacher in Little Diomede. |
Many nights we took the Honda's out to travel around Unalakleet. We went down the beach, up in the hills. It was a lot of fun. I had the Honda up to 55 once. With no helmet. I also went through a creek too fast and got splashed, as well as riding in the rain.
Marcus the 6th grade teacher from Gambell. |
One night I went out with Kathy and Chris who were in Gambell last year, we went to the other restaurant in Unalakleet, The Igloo. Had a bacon cheeseburger and curly fries.
This was on the back of the ketchup bottle! |
