Flying over the Yukon

BSSD Intern Class 2014

These are my new friends!

This is the first BSSD Intern Class to come and work for a few months in the Alaskan Bush. We didn't know that we were the first interns that they have done this with. They seem so organized.

I am really glad that we had time to get to know each other before we go tomorrow (1/29/14) to our respective sites. We have each other's email and Facebook so we can communicate. Most of us will have internet access at the schools before and after school to communicate with the outside world. Some of us will have cell service. I will be able to make and receive phone calls as well as text messages, but won't have any internet access on my cell phone in Teller.

Day Two: Anchorage

9:11 am Alaska Time

I took this picture this morning at 9:11am. It seems to be pretty much like twilight until about 11am, and then it's light, but it is more like it's afternoon back home.

This morning I met my principal for a few moments before she went to her conference with the other principals. Then we came back to our hotel next door to theirs for breakfast. Most of us thought that we would be having a continental breakfast but to our surprise there was a chef making omelets, pancakes, eggs and french toast. I had reindeer sausage. My picky eater buddy and I made an agreement if I ate a bite he would.
Reindeer Sausage!
It was really good. I would definitely eat it again. If I hadn't known, I would have thought it was polish sausage. (Like someone once let me believe that the "chicken" I was eating was chicken, and not duck! You know who you are!)

And the Adventure Begins...

I started my grand adventure to Alaska this morning at 6am. After frantically packing last night and wondering if I would have enough room for everything as well as still be under the 50 lbs weight limit. I made it with one bag being 49 lbs and the other being 30. Whew.

My mom took this picture before I went through security. It's the BEFORE Alaska picture.

I knew when I checked in that I had seat 7A. I knew that in seats 7B C and D were other interns, but I had no clue as to what they looked like. When the guys got there (C and D) I said, "You guys are going to the same place I am!" They looked at me strangely. Then B came and she's like "We're all going to the same place!" Apparently Kristina and I are both stalkers and looked at who else was on the reservation as we were. She went one better and googled us. I was amused, I would have googled them but I didn't think about it.
