Flying over the Yukon

BSSD Intern Class 2014

These are my new friends!

This is the first BSSD Intern Class to come and work for a few months in the Alaskan Bush. We didn't know that we were the first interns that they have done this with. They seem so organized.

I am really glad that we had time to get to know each other before we go tomorrow (1/29/14) to our respective sites. We have each other's email and Facebook so we can communicate. Most of us will have internet access at the schools before and after school to communicate with the outside world. Some of us will have cell service. I will be able to make and receive phone calls as well as text messages, but won't have any internet access on my cell phone in Teller.

Map of my Travels!
So above is a map of Alaska and where I've been. We started in Anchorage on the 25th, and then flew to Unalakleet. Tomorrow I'll get on the BSSD plane at 10am and fly to Teller. It's about a 50 minute flight up there. Bill and I will be the first interns leaving tomorrow morning. Then the rest leave later.

The pictures below are from flying over Anchorage to Unalakleet. This is flying over the Yukon. The flight at the beginning was really bumpy and kind of scary, but nerve wracking because it seemed like we were flying sideways at time, and on a roller coaster.

The pictures do not do the actual views justice. It was amazing to see the land. Next post will be about the afternoon and evening of Unalakleet, we are headed to Peace On Earth, the only restaurant in Unalakleet.  They serve pizza, salad and sandwiches. I'll also talk about the store at Unalakleet.
