Goodbye Unalakleet and Hello Teller!

Goodbye Unalakleet!

Unalakleet By Kristina Benitez

BSSD Interns 2014 in Unalakleet
On Wednesday morning (1/29/14) we got up, ate breakfast, packed up and headed out. Three of us were the first to leave. Bill and I for Teller. Kirsten for Golovin. Kirsten got dropped off at ERA Airlines (the airline that Flying Wild Alaska was based on.) We got to hitch a ride on the BSSD airplane.

Our ride to Teller, Ak

Map of the flight routes - This was in the BSSD hangar.

Twice a month the BSSD plane flies what they call "Freeze" (the frozen food for school breakfasts and lunches) to each of the schools.
Bill and I got to ride a straight flight from Unalakleet to Teller. We were originally told that we would take a flight to Nome, then hop a flight to Teller a few hours later. We would have a few hours to see the sights in Nome (and possibly do some shopping). But we got to hitch a ride on the districts own airplane. Every two weeks they send "freeze" up to the school. So we got to ride up with the food for lunches and breakfasts.

Flying over Norton Sound to Teller was basically a straight shot Northwest. It was an amazing flight, and the pictures seriously don't do it justice. The pilot was amazing, and other than a few bumps along the way, the flight was smooth sailing.

Ready to go!

We're on our way!

Takeoff!

And we're airborne! Over the Norton Sound!

Sunrise! Under the tarp is the food for lunches. One side of the plane was seats, the other for the food)

Ice on the Sound, This picture does the actual green of the water justice.

I think this is Golovin

Good Morning

Teller, on the 3 mile road to the airport. It's down  there in the bay.
