Welcome to Teller! (1/29/14)

After landing in Teller, and helping unload the freeze and our luggage, we drove the three miles to the school. When we walked in these signs were there to welcome us!

The inside of the school, these are painted above the entryway.

We arrived shortly before lunch, and also during a period when kids were going from one classroom to another. The kids were super friendly and all introduced themselves. I didn't remember all of their names. I know that there is only about 70 kids in the school, and eventually I will remember all of their names, but it was slightly overwhelming.

After we ate a lunch of tuna casserole in the lunchroom sitting with the elementary kids and talking with them. They were a friendly bunch.

Shortly thereafter we got the keys to the 4plex where we will be staying. I'm staying with one of the teachers here. She's really nice. It's great that she has opened her home to me to stay.

After getting my bags unpacked I headed back to the school. The principal gave us a tour and then told us that we could stop in any room that we wanted to. I went to the K/1 class where I possibly will be subbing for later in the month when the teacher goes out of town. They group with the 2nd graders for some activities and it's really interesting on how they teach the different levels and how they made adaptations/differentations on the fly for the younger/older kids.

We ended up going to the principal's house for dinner. This is the view from her windows. This is over the bay and Brevig Mission is across the bay. It's about 6 miles between the two villages and during the winter people go back and forth all of the time. Especially for basketball games. Which this weekend is a tournament!
