The pictures behind the cut are part of what happens up here. It is subsistence living, and when walking on the beach you will come across this occasionally.
I was not there, but these are pictures taken by another teacher here in Gambell, as well as another staff member.

| This is the man who got the polar bear, he works at the school. |
The polar bear was killed on February 24th.
This walrus was killed on March 12, which is why I know what the ocean looked like 3 days before the pictures I took yesterday.
Everything on the animal is used. Except for the intestines. They threw those back in to the ocean.

| Apparently they go thru the contents of the stomach looking for undigested clams. The locals said that they were the "sweetest". I'm not sure about that. |
